Which Type of RVer Are You? Type 3: Escapists

We’re continuing our series “Which Type of RVer Are You?” by jumping into the next camper profile. If you missed out on the previous weeks, you can read the Casual Camper Profile here and the Family Camper Profile here. This month, we’re covering a camper profile that makes up 16% of total RVers—Escapists!

A recent study of RV ownership came up with these 7 categories:

  1. Casual Campers
  2. Family Campers
  3. Escapists
  4. Avid RVers
  5. Happy Campers
  6. Full Timers
  7. Adventure Seekers

Escapists

Do you love to escape real life and head out on the road in your RV? You may be an escapist. This group isn’t necessarily about adventure-seeking (that’s another group entirely). It’s about enjoying the freedom that comes with traveling in an RV. It’s not that you escaped life to go full time RVing, but you do like to go for more than the occasional weekend trip. In fact, most escapists enjoy doing week long RV trips.

On average, escapists spend 55 days each year in their RV. Half of escapists are retired, while the other half is still working with the majority being over the age of 55 years old. The majority also don’t live with children at home anymore.

What Escapist Campers need in an RV

As an escapist, your needs may differ from those of other RVer groups. You’re in trips for the long haul, not just the occasional day or two. That means storage may be more important to you. When you’re traveling for longer periods of time, you want to make sure you have what you need when you need it. Closet space, cabinet space, and additional storage space may be on the top of your list.

You may also be interested in some additional space. You might not mind sharing space with your significant other or kids for a few days at a time, but when you get into a week, you might want some alone time. This is when a larger RV comes into play. There are floorplans that provide additional rooms so everyone can have a place to retreat to and get away.

Another feature you may be looking for in your RV as an escapist is the ability to leave your RV at the campsite. If you take longer trips, you may enjoy the option to leave your RV set up at camp while you do day trips around the area. Having a travel trailer or fifth wheel is an easy way to meet this need.

Here are some RVs that may be the perfect fit for escapists.

2022 Keystone Montana 3231CK

What do we love about this Keystone Montana for escapists? It has many of the touches and comforts of home. The bedroom has a private and secluded feel. The bathroom includes a double vanity making it easy to get ready without bumping into each other. The kitchen has a large island making meal prep fun and easy. There is a dining room table instead of the dinette many assume is in an RV. In addition, the living space feels like a living room instead of a dual-purpose space.

In addition, as a fifth wheel, you can unhitch the RV and have your truck to get you around anywhere you want to go. It’s the best of both worlds.

Forest River Cherokee Alpha Wolf 26RL

The Forest River Cherokee Alpha Wolf does a great job of providing additional storage space. It’s a lightweight travel trailer which means it’s easier to tow than some of the larger and heavier travel trailers. In addition, the floorplan has plenty of places for everyone to sit while still allowing it to feel like there is room to move about. You can easily stay for longer periods of time without feeling like you’re tripping over one another.

The travel trailer sleeps 4 so if you still have kids at home or friends that want to travel with you, there is space for a few extra.

Thor Motor Coach Palazzo 37.5

The Thor Motor Coach Palazzo may be for you if you’d prefer to have a Class A motorhome. You could choose to tow a vehicle behind you or you may just enjoy the convenience of having your RV with you wherever you go. This is also a great option to consider if you will be traveling with others or want the ability to have guests RV with you on occasion. The motorhome can sleep up to 8 people. It also provides the added convenience of a washer and dryer which is nice when doing an extended trip.
