Last month we started our series “Which Type of RVer Are You?” by sharing the first type of RVer; The Casual Camper. Today we’re going to continue our series with the next type of RVer group which makes up 33% of RVers—Family Campers!
The Family Camper
You may think you fall into this group solely on the basis that you have children who travel with you, but that’s not completely true. Even if you enjoy traveling as a family, you could also fall into one of the other categories which include:
- Casual Campers
- Family Campers
- Escapists
- Avid RVers
- Happy Campers
- Full Timers
- Adventure Seekers
Family Campers are those who love using their RV to enjoy family time together. You love to hit the road, find new places to explore, or revisit your favorite destinations again and again while creating new family memories you can cherish for a lifetime. The only obstacle is your kids may be restricted by the school or sports schedules and your full-time job keeps you from getting away as much as you might like.
Family Campers use their RV an average of 13 days per year. You’re not able to get away that often so when you do, you want to make the most of it.
Not all RVers who count themselves as Family Campers have children living at home with them. You may have adult children who still like to travel with you or grandchildren that you enjoy bringing along on vacation.
What Family Campers need in an RV
Families that go RVing have some unique needs that others don’t necessarily have. One of the biggest needs is space. When you’re RVing with your family, you need to make sure there is a place for everyone to sleep along with room to move about in the RV. Things like getting ready in the morning can be complicated if you have a large family and not enough bathroom space. And, if your family likes a little space and alone time, you might not want to an RV where people have to sleep on sofa sleepers.
In addition, more people traveling also means more mouths to feed. That means the kitchen can become even more important for Family Campers. You need room to bring along ingredients and space to prep meals for the whole family.
You also need plenty of storage room to bring along the necessities and the toys too! If you’re looking for an RV that allows you to do it all, here are some of our recommendations for Family RVers:
Jayco Eagle Ht 312BHOK
This Eagle HT Travel Trailer is a great fit for the entire family. It has the space you need and the finishes you want. You can enjoy a relaxing bedroom at the front of the travel trailer while the back features a bunkhouse. There are two bunks and three sofas. Separating the two rooms is the main living space which includes a large kitchen island making it easy to prep meals while camping as well. And after a long day of hiking, fishing, and creating memories, you can relax by the fireplace under the entertainment center.
This RV finds the perfect balance for RVing families. There is plenty of space to be together and also enough room for each person to have their own place if they want a little time alone.
Forest River Wildwood Heritage Glen 369BL
The Forest River Wildwood Heritage Glen features 4 slideouts helping create the space your family needs. At the front of the RV you ill find a bedroom with a walkaround king bed. There is also a separate room with a bunk, sofa, desk, and dresser. It’s the perfect place for kids to get away and have their own place to play, read, or watch TV. It also provides additional storage for their belongings making it easy for everyone to keep their things apart. Over that room is a loft that could be used for sleeping and storage that you access through stairs in the hallway.
The open feel of the kitchen, dining, and living room make it easy for everyone to find a place to sit and plenty of space to relax, play games, or watch a movie.
Heartland Road Warrior 3965
If you have a family that loves to bring the toys along and is up for an adventure, this is the perfect RV for you. The Heartland Road Warrior is a fifth wheel toy hauler that provides the sleeping space you need while still giving you space to bring your toys and equipment.
This fifth wheel does a nice job of dividing the living space from the garage space. There is a separate bedroom and bathroom at the front of the RV. You still have a kitchen including a kitchen island and an entertainment center with a large couch.
Once you remove your toys from the garage, there is an electric queen bed – split bench seat that you can use as additional sleeping space. There is also a half bath you can access only from the garage making it easy to let the family use the bathroom without having to track mud and dirt through the interior space.
If you’re a family that enjoys being active outdoors, this is a great option.
