North San Luis Obispo County
SLO County has a lot to offer, and it was recently named one of the Top 10 Wine Getaways. The complexity of the soil variations to the cool ocean air help to make this an ideal location for wineries. There are around two dozen different wine varietals that grow well in SLO county. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are among the most popular for this area, along with aromatic whites such as Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling.
Besides wineries, the area offers much for visitors to enjoy. There are many RV campgrounds that you can stay at during your visit, including the Wine Country RV Resort. While visiting the wineries in the region you will be less than ten miles from the ocean. Also popular in SLO county is the 165-room historical Hearst Castle.
Santa Barbara County
Santa Barbara County is known for being one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the state. The diversity of the growing conditions within the region allow for around 42 different varietals to flourish. The county provides beautiful and scenic wineries and urban hip tasting rooms. Regardless of what your style is you will find a place to enjoy tasting the flavorful variations that are grown in the area.
Santa Barbara County is known for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but there are many boutique lots to try in the area like Grenache Blanc, Tocai Friulano, and Mourvedre.
Santa Rita Hills
Within Santa Barbara lies Santa Rita Hills, which is still a newer name for many wine lovers. However, it’s quickly gaining attention. The area is a small appellation that is located within the Santa Ynez Valley district. The cool ocean breezes make this the perfect place for cool climate wine grapes. The area has received
a lot of attention for it’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. If you want to experience this area in all its splendor, set up a base camp at an RV park in the area and follow the
Santa Rita Hills Wine Trail.
