Thanksgiving day is coming quick! While most people associate that big turkey dinner with the holiday, it can be tough to do if you are spending it in your RV. Or, at least it used to be…
RV kitchens that have everything you need
One of the reasons that it used to feel impossible to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner in your RV is because the kitchens left a lot to be desired. Not only did they lack the room to be able to comfortably cook and store the food that you wanted to use, but the options were limited on how and what you could cook. Not anymore!
There are plenty of RV models that have kitchens that offer you the same features and gorgeous appeal of a residential kitchen. If you are looking to upgrade your RV for a kitchen that fits your needs or you are looking to buy your first RV and want to make sure you have the perfect kitchen, here are some models to checkout:
Keystone Cougar
The large island with double sink in the Keystone Cougar kitchen is the perfect place to make your holiday meal. You also have the luxury of being able to use an oven, cooktop, and microwave. And, you have plenty of storage space in your refrigerator so you can bring along the ingredients that you need and store all the yummy leftovers.
Newmar Dutch Star
The Newmar Dutch Star is a Class A RV that has a great kitchen for cooking. You can cover the cooktop and double sink when not using them to end up with a spacious countertop for food prep, which is just what you need for Thanksgiving Day. You have plenty of storage options and a refrigerator that will hold everything you need, including that turkey.
While these two models are great examples of what RV kitchens can offer, they aren’t the only ones for you to consider. If you’re looking to find the right fit for you, contact us today to explore your options.
Thanksgiving Day Recipes
If you are traveling for the upcoming holiday or if you are a full-time RVer, these recipes can help you pull off an RV style Thanksgiving dinner.
Turkey
This video shows a super simple recipe for cooking a turkey. But, it shows cooking the turkey in your RV convection oven. You can really dress up this recipe with any of the seasonings and add-ins that you prefer. The important thing to note is that you need to make sure that you purchase a turkey that will fit in your RV oven.
Mashed potatoes
You don’t want to have turkey without mashed potatoes but peeling, cooking, and mashing the potatoes can take a lot of time and space in your RV kitchen. That’s why you want to use this Make-Ahead Mashed Potato recipe from allrecipes.com. With cream cheese and sour cream make the mashed potatoes really creamy and good. But, the best part is that you can cook these up ahead of time and then throw them in a crockpot or reheat them on Thanksgiving day and they still come out great.
Stuffing
You have a couple of options for your stuffing. The first is to make a stuffing that you can put in your turkey while it cooks. Or, you can try this homemade stovetop stuffing from The Kitchen Magpie. By doing this you don’t have to worry about cooking one other thing in the oven while your turkey is cooking.
Pie
This may be controversial, but I prefer apple pie to pumpkin pie. This video shows a fantastic recipe for a homemade apple pie that is cooked in a NuWave oven. This is a great option to have if you’re looking for additional ways to cook things while the turkey is cooking. And, remember you can also make the pie up the day before or get it in the oven while everyone is eating the dinner portion of their meal.
Another cooking option
While there are some great options to cook your Thanksgiving dinner inside, don’t overlook the fire pit outside. The Travel Channel shares how you can cook your entire Thanksgiving meal right over the fire.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter where you cook your meal or even if you have the traditional meal on Thanksgiving Day. What does matter, is that you take the time to remember all the things that you’re grateful for. And, here at Sky River RV, we’re thankful for you!
