Ideas for Spooky Camping Fun!

Halloween is coming! Traditionally Halloween is a fun holiday to celebrate at RV campgrounds. Depending on where you stay, there might have been decorating contests, fall festival activities, and plenty of trick-or-treating. The Covid-19 rules may have gotten in the way of some of the fun, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still find other ways to enjoy spooky fun while Halloween camping.

Here are a few ways you can participate in some spooky fun this Halloween:

1. Decorate your campsite

The campground that your staying at doesn’t have to be hosting a contest in order for you to decorate your campsite. If you want to create some spooky fun for Halloween camping, go all out on the decorations. Not only will this be fun for you, you can help others that see your site enjoy Halloween more as well.

There’s no limit on the creativity that you can do here. Some RVers do simple things like decorating with fake spiders and spiderwebs, while others go all out with Halloween lights, blow up lawn decorations, music and more. Have fun with it!

2. Take a trip to Fernwood Campground at Big Sur

History has mixed with legend over the years (probably around the campfire). The Fernwood Campground is located on land that was owned by the Esselen Tribe of Native Americans before colonists took it from them. Many campers have reported seeing what is believed to be the ghost of an Esselen warrior that is dressed with a cornhusk mask.

There are reports that he can be seen roaming through the woods at early hours of the morning. Some campers even report that he has come up and stood outside of their tents (you’ll be glad to be in your RV).

3. Visit Vallecito County Park, California

Vallecito County Park is the home to a former stage station that has a story or two to tell. One of the most popular stories is of a young woman who died at the stop when on her way to Sacramento. People claim to have seen her dressed in a white dress walking around, trying to find her way to California.

But she’s not the only spook that has been spotted in the area. Others include a ghost stage coach and pulled by horses.

4. Enjoy a spooky snack

What would celebrating Halloween be without a few spooky snacks to enjoy. You can find great recipes and treats that you can make over the fire, or whip them up in your RV’s kitchen and head out for some Halloween fun. Here are some recipes to get your wheels turning:

5. Tell ghost stories around the fire

This is fun to do anytime you’re sitting around the fire, but there’s something about Halloween time that makes it even better. You can even have a ghost story competition to see who can create the spookiest tale. If you want to up your storytelling skills, read this article on how to tell the scariest stories.

6. Head out for a late night walk

There’s not much scarier than heading out for a midnight walk after telling ghost stories around the campfire. Your minds will be running, your ears will pick up on every little sound coming from the shadows and your eyes will play tricks on you.

If you’re camping as a group, you can even have a few people set up along the way to add in some startling frights.

Don’t let your RV give you a scare this Halloween

Your RV battery is crucial to your ability to travel and enjoy your RV. And while you may have a decent understanding of your car battery, it’s not the same thing. You have two different battery systems in your RV that help you experience RVing instead of simply camping inside of the RV.

The last thing you want is to travel to your destination and run into problems with your RV batteries. This article on RV Share lets you know some of the key things you should know and understand about your RV battery. If you want to have your RV checked over and serviced to make sure everything is working properly as it should so you don’t have any problems while you travel, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
