Which Type of RVer Are You? Type 1: The Casual Camper

Over the past two years, we’ve shared quite a bit about the increase in people purchasing new and pre-owned RVs. The change in perspectives from one generation to the next along with travel restrictions from the pandemic led to a surge of interest in the RV industry. The stereotype used to be that RVs were for couples to enjoy traveling in after retirement, but not anymore.

A recent study of RV ownership found that RV owners tend to fall into one of seven categories.

  1. Casual Campers
  2. Family Campers
  3. Escapists
  4. Avid RVers
  5. Happy Campers
  6. Full Timers
  7. Adventure Seekers

Why does this matter to you? These categories are based on the use and purpose of the RV to the RVer. When you know what you want to do with your RV it helps you be able to find one that’s just the right fit for you.

There are many different RVs to choose from on the market. There is no one-size-fits-all RV that will meet everyone’s needs. You may prefer a large Class A with all the comforts of home while someone else may prefer an RV that allows them to get off the grid that has just enough space for them.

The better you understand what your needs and desires are in owning in and traveling in an RV, the easier it will be to find the perfect one for you. So, we’re going to do a series explaining each category for you along with sharing a few RVs that might be just what you’re looking for. Let’s dive into our first RVer group!

The Casual Camper

Casual Campers include the group of people that uses their RVs occasionally on the weekends during the popular travel months (spring through fall). RVing and camping are some of their hobbies as opposed to their lifestyle. In fact, RV trips only make up around half of their vacations each year.

The majority of casual campers tend to be empty-nesters who are over the age of 55. On average, they use their RV 16 days out of the year. They consider themselves to be on the private side and likely aren’t looking for a party while they’re on the road.

With this information in mind, the Casual Camper is one that isn’t looking for the largest RV. They want something that has enough space for them to enjoy the comfort and convenience of an RV, but they aren’t planning on spending a lot of time in the RV each year. This makes travel trailers a great option to consider. There are many options on the market now that are lightweight and easy to tow with an SUV as opposed to needing a large truck like required for a fifth wheel. This also allows you to not have to worry about the mechanics involved in Class A, Class C, or camper vans.

If you’re a Casual Camper, the following are RVs that will fit your needs.
