6 RV Maintenance Tips Every RVer Can Benefit From

RV Maintenance Tips

It is crucial for RV owners to take meticulous care of their vehicles. Some regular maintenance tasks can be completed simply by monitoring the issue, along with correct usage. Other parts of RV maintenance will take some elbow grease, while others are best left to a professional. Lets take a look at some essential upkeep tasks to help ensure that your RV will be up and running smoothly for years to come.

1. Inspect the seams and seals of your roof. This should be done in the spring, mid-summer, and again in the fall at the end of the vacation season. If you RV year-round, every 3-4 months is prudent. This task is DIY if you don’t let trouble spots worsen. Check out this instructional video. And if you have a rubber roof, make sure to have it treated at least once a year.

2. Check your battery at the beginning of every trip. You should get about 3-5 years out of deep cycle batteries, before the need for a replacement battery. Remove the RV battery during winter storage and keep it in a room temperature environment.

3. Check tire pressure before every trip. The video below explains this mandatory maintenance task.

4. Take proper care of the septic system in your RV. This task is another, that, if performed regularly, can prevent system failures that could otherwise cost thousands of dollars to repair. Check out our previous post on septic maintenance.

5. Replace fuel, hydraulic, air and coolant filters on a scheduled basis. Consult your owner’s manual or look for labeling on the existing filters. Purchase spares of the correct make and size for each system. Worn, clogged filters can cause overheating and cause your RV to burn more fuel than is necessary.

6. Have your RV generator serviced as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Repairs and replacements will cost thousands. Also, it is important to exercise the carburetor by regularly running the generator during the off-season.

These are just a few tips. Be an informed and conscientious RV owner and you will get the most out of your RV experience. And as always Sky River RV is happy to help with all of your RV Service  needs.
