Did you love your RV when you first purchased it but now you’re starting to have mixed feelings about it? You love being able to go RVing and yet you feel that there’s something that just isn’t working the way you want it to when you’re on the road. It may be time for an RV upgrade.
There are several different reasons why people decide to upgrade their RVs. See if you can identify with any of these:
1. There are newer models
This is the most basic reason that you might upgrade your RV. Every year there are always new models that come out. And, just like you want to upgrade your vehicle every so often because it’s nice to have something new, it’s the same with an RV.
So, if your RV is getting older, you might want to consider trading it for a newer model. RV manufacturers are constantly working to make improvements to what they have on the market. That means that every year there are new models out with layouts that might work better for you than what you already have. They may have options for solar power or additional storage space or the interior design feel that makes you feel at home.
It’s fun to look at new RV models by going to RV shows and it’s fun to find a new RV that is exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes, you don’t need any other reason to u
2. You want access to different features
As mentioned above, newer models might have new features that you don’t have in your existing RV, but it’s not just newer models. Maybe when you were just started to RV you wanted a Class B because it was simple to drive and easy to set up camp when you arrived. But, now that you’ve been RVing for a while, you realize that you’d love the option of having something towable so you have a vehicle you can use for day trips.
Or, maybe you weren’t worried about having a washer and dryer when you started out RVing but you’re starting to be on the road more and more and it’s a feature you’d really like to have.
There are plenty of different features that you can find in an RV and just as many different reasons on why the features that you’re looking for in an RV might change. If you find that your current RV isn’t working for you in all the ways that you want it to, it’s probably time for an upgrade.
3. You need more space
RVs work a lot like houses. Many couples buy that first starter house off of their current needs. They know they want a house to live in but they don’t need that much space because it’s just the two of them. But not long after being in the house they find out that their family is growing and before they know it that small starter house is full of little ones. When that happens, they start looking for a house with more space.
If you bought your RV before every member of your family arrived, it might be time to upgrade. More people traveling in the RV can make it nice to have more space.
But that’s not the only reason why you might want to upgrade your RV for more space. It might be that now that you’ve been RVing for a while you realize that you could use a little extra space when you’re traveling. Or, you may have decided to take that leap to be a fulltime RVer and you need to move more of your belongings into your RV.
It could even be that you realize you love paddle boarding and you want a toy hauler because it will allow you to bring your boards along with you so you can enjoy your new hobby while traveling.
Whatever your reason is for needing more space, an RV upgrade can give you exactly what you need.
4. You have too much space
The opposite is true as well. You might find that you need less space in your RV.
It may be that you bought your current RV when your kids were living at home and you all traveled as a family. But, now they are out of your house and there are fewer people traveling with you each trip.
Or, you may have thought you needed the space that a Class A RV could provide, but after traveling in it for a few years you realize you don’t really need all the space that you have. Maybe, you’d rather have a Class B that makes it easy for you to camp in different locations and is easier to drive. You’d prefer to give up the additional space in order to upgrade to a newer and smaller RV because it fits your needs better.
5. Some parks won’t let your older model in
This is an unfortunate rule but true in some parks. There are some RV parks that have a 10-year or 15-year rule. If your RV is older than that, you’re not getting into the park.
There are several different reasons why this rule exists in some parks. For some, it’s all about the look and fee of the park. While that seems discriminatory, you can think of those parks similar to neighborhoods that have Homeowners’ Associations that control where your garbage cans go, where you can park, and what color you can paint your house. These parks are looking to be a place for higher-end RVs so they enforce the rule.
There are also some RV parks that enforce this for more environmental type reasons. They may have had bad experiences in the past with old RVs leaking oil on their cement pads, breaking down, or having other issues that disrupt the other RVs in the park.
While you may be able to talk to park management in order to get around this rule, you may also decide it’s a good sign that it’s probably time to upgrade your RV. And, since there are constantly fun new features that make RVing easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable, it can’t hurt to look at some new options.
