With much of the country in some type of a quarantine situation, RVers have a choice to make. We can either hunker down at home like the rest of the country or use this time as an opportunity to hit the road while “staying safe at home” in our RVs.
Below are 10 reasons why you should self-quarantine in your RV throughout this COVID-19 pandemic.
1. It meets all the requirements
Staying in your RV, whether you’re boondocking out in nature or at a local campground, meets all the requirements the CDC and other healthcare and government officials are asking you to do. You can safely practice social distancing while still being able to get out of your own house. The majority of campgrounds are set up that if you stay on your campsite, you won’t be within six feet of anyone that’s not staying with you.
2. Because you finally have the time
Many RV owners wish they had more time for RVing. With so many businesses shut down temporarily, many people are finding themselves with extra time on their hands. This means you can head out for an extended RV trip. The kids won’t be missing school and you won’t be missing work.
Anxiety is reaching all-time highs for people around the country, and an effective way to fight stress and anxiety is to get outside and be active. Instead of taking a walk around the neighborhood every day, you can spend your quarantine in your RV getting finding beautiful places to hike, kayak, paddleboard and enjoy all the other outdoor activities that you love.
3. There isn’t a lot else going on
We’re about to hit what should be the opening day of major league baseball, but not this year. We are approaching what would have been the start of the playoffs for both the NBA and NHL. There just isn’t a lot going on in the sports world right now.
Not only are all professional sports on hold right now, but your kids’ activities are also halted as well. You aren’t going to be running from one activity to the next over the next several weeks, at the minimum, so you might as well do something that the whole family can enjoy!
4. You’ll have time to clean out the RV
Let’s face it when you get back from an RV trip you probably don’t take the time to really deep clean your RV. We all mean to, but it’s one of those things that we don’t get too as often as we want to. With all this extra time on your hands, you can deep clean your RV while self-quarantining inside of it.
This is a great time to clean out those cupboards, take inventory of what you want to update or replace, and just give it a good overall deep cleaning.
5. Your RV wants to be used
The mechanical parts of your RV are begging to be used on a more regular basis. Your RV doesn’t want to sit unused for months at a time. If you haven’t really taken time to get out RVing over the winter, this is the perfect time to use it and get it ready to go for the summer which will hopefully bring the reopening of destinations across the country.
6. Your job isn’t going to complain
Companies are asking employees to work remotely. If you’re already in this position, there’s no reason to just sit at home. With the right technology, you can work from anywhere. That means you can sit in your RV and complete your workday and then step out the door to go on a hike with your family, go fishing, or whatever your favorite activity is.
7. It’s good for your kids
Adults aren’t the only ones being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Your children’s lives have been turned upside down as well. They can’t go to school. They can’t go to their extra-curricular activities. And, they can’t see their friends. This is an anxious time for them as well. So, instead of just sitting at home as a family, you can use your RV to be creating new memories and getting their minds off the current situation.
8. Get away from the media and craze
It’s hard not to be addicted to the news and social media during these unknown times, but it’s not doing much good for us either. So, instead of sitting around and letting it make you crazy, you can do something good for yourself and your family by getting away from it all. Life in your RV or at a campground usually involves more time together and less time on technology. That’s exactly what your family needs right now.
9. You need some fun
RVing is fun! Right now most fun things have been put on hold, so take advantage of what you have access to. You can use your RV as an escape from stress and head out to enjoy life in the moment. It’s a change of pace which can be exactly what you need to get your mind off the current world situation.
10. It gives you time to regain your composure
RVing is good for the soul. You can use it to get more time in nature and silence the messaging that the media is trying to throw at you right now. The world has come through other pandemics and we’ll come through this one too. But, when you get caught up in the anxiousness of the media, it’s hard to maintain that sense of calm and peace. Use a little time in your RV to reconnect with that reminder.
